Director of Teaching and Learning

Purpose: To lead a clear, coherent, and high-quality academic program from age 2 through twelfth grade. This role ensures strong teaching and measurable student outcomes by aligning curriculum, using student data to guide decisions, and partnering with Division Heads to strengthen the academic experience across the school.

Essential Functions:
Academic Strategy & Program Leadership

  • Leads the development and ongoing refinement of a cohesive PK–12 academic program aligned with the school’s mission and strategic plan, in partnership with Division Heads and faculty leaders.
  • Ensures vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum across grades, disciplines, and divisions.
  • Establishes clear expectations for curriculum design, instructional quality, and student outcomes.
  • Facilitates cross-divisional collaboration to strengthen program coherence.
  • Identifies areas for academic growth, and leads initiatives to advance program quality.
  • Oversees the reaccreditation process, including coordination, documentation, and implementation of key recommendations.

Student Learning, Data & Outcomes

  • Establishes and oversees school-wide assessment practices and expectations.
  • Analyzes student performance trends, and communicates actionable insights to Head of School and Division Heads.
  • Partners with Division Heads to ensure consistent and effective use of student data to inform instructional and program  decisions across divisions.
  • Collaborates with Division Heads to strengthen student outcomes and support the implementation of data-informed practices.

Faculty Development & Professional Practice

  • Continuously evaluates and maintains the faculty evaluation framework, including performance standards and expectations.
  • Sets institutional priorities for professional development, and oversees professional development resources and budget.
  • In Partnership with Division Heads, cultivates a culture of continuous growth and investment in faculty.
  • Leads and supervises cross-divisional faculty and staff, ensuring alignment with academic priorities.
  • Manages faculty recruitment and hiring, providing guidance on candidate quality, instructional fit, and program needs.
  • Develops and implements an institution-wide onboarding program for new faculty, clarifying expectations for instructional practice, student engagement, school culture, and communication.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education or a related field; doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Proven success in academic leadership, curriculum development, and instructional improvement.
  • Strong systems thinker with experience designing and implementing school-wide academic or faculty development initiatives.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex assessment data and collaborate with school leaders to drive instructional improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, collaboration, and relationship-building rather than direct supervision.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to build alignment and trust across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
