About Us
The Tennessee Association of Independent Schools (TAIS) represents over 65 independent schools across Tennessee and northern Mississippi. As a non-profit governed by a Board of Directors and led by a team of passionate lifelong educators, TAIS supports Member Schools that provide strong academic programs, appreciate students and faculty as unique and whole individuals, foster community-engaged school cultures, and facilitate the moral and ethical growth of their students. All TAIS Member Schools maintain non-discriminatory policies, are incorporated as nonprofit organizations governed by a Board of Trustees, and are accredited either by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), Cognia, or the state of Tennessee.
TAIS Membership is a strategic investment in your school’s leadership, learning, and long-term success. Member Schools gain access to exclusive programs, discounted professional development, and expert support tailored to independent schools. From policy advocacy to purchasing power, TAIS connects your school to a statewide network of resources, relationships, and representation.
TAIS is proud to support a network of the most distinguished independent schools across Tennessee and northern Mississippi. For over 50 years, we’ve championed excellence in independent education—bringing together schools with strong academic programs; moral and ethically developed leaders, faculty, and students; and a shared commitment to human flourishing.
Our Member Schools reflect a wide range of missions and models, including boarding schools, single-gender institutions, faith-based communities, and progressive approaches to teaching and learning. While each school is unique, all meet the high standards of governance, formal accreditation, and a demonstrated commitment to educational excellence.
If your school shares our values and meets the eligibility requirements, we invite you to connect with us about membership.
