American GOAL: Turning Federal Taxes into Educational Opportunity

This webinar will provide a practical overview of the new federal scholarship tax credit and how schools can use American GOAL to expand financial aid opportunities for their community beginning in 2027. Participants will learn how taxpayer contributions and scholarship award processing will work, as well as how American GOAL can complement existing financial aid and advancement strategies. We will also cover the latest information on the forthcoming Treasury regulations and address potential concerns regarding federal overreach. The session will also review American GOAL’s administrative support, technology, marketing resources, and recommended next steps for participation.
Participants will leave prepared to:
- Explain the federal scholarship tax credit and its potential value to school leadership, boards, donors, and families.
- Understand student eligibility, allowable scholarship uses, contribution rules, and the anticipated federal implementation timeline.
- Evaluate how American GOAL scholarships can complement existing financial aid, state scholarship programs, and philanthropic efforts.
- Understand the roles of the school and American GOAL in fundraising, scholarship recommendations, compliance, processing, and reporting.
- Identify the operational, financial, and communications steps needed to prepare for a successful 2027 launch.
- Determine whether American GOAL is the right SGO partner for their school and understand the process for becoming a participating school.
Our Facilitators

Lisa Kelly has been with the GOAL Scholarship Program since its inception, serving as President and Executive Director for 15 years. Prior to joining GOAL, Lisa served as Vice President and CFO of Brand Velocity, Inc., an international IT consulting firm, and Manager of Quality Assurance for Management Science America, Inc., at that time the largest application software company in the world. Lisa also worked for EY in the consulting group and for PwC in the audit group. She earned her accounting degree from the University of Georgia and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Lisa now serves as Senior Advisor for GOAL, continuing her engagement in the strategic direction and operations for the organization.
