Director of Spiritual Formation and Service: The Covenant School

The Director of Spiritual Formation and Service serves as a spiritual leader for the school community, shepherding students in their spiritual formation. This role provides leadership for Bible instruction, daily chapel programming, and service opportunity while ensuring that the Bible curriculum aligns with the mission, vision, and theological foundation of the school. The Director works collaboratively with leadership and faculty to cultivate a vibrant Christ-centered culture where students grow in their knowledge of Scripture and their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Leadership

  • Provide spiritual leadership for the school community through discipleship, mentoring, and pastoral-type care.
  • Helps measure the spiritual pulse of the school and design chapel programming that meets the spiritual needs of students in creative and engaging ways.
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to grow in their relationship with Christ through prayer, worship, scripture engagement, and service.
  • Help reinforce and communicate the mission and vision of the school to both internal and external communities.
  • Cooperate wholeheartedly with the direction of the school and participate fully as a member of the teaching faculty.
  • Provide vision and leadership for the direction of the Bible curriculum.

Teaching and Instruction

  • Serve as a teacher of Bible who understands how students learn; applies effective instructional strategies appropriate to various developmental age levels.
  • Use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Integrate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Demonstrate excellence in written and verbal communication.
  • Maintain a relentless commitment to student growth, believing all students can achieve success at high levels.
  • Utilize curriculum mapping tools (such as Atlas mapping) to ensure continuity, alignment, and intentional progression in the Bible curriculum.
  • Lead collaborative discussions around instructional strategies, assessment methods, and curriculum standards.
  • Ensure the Bible program and curriculum remain aligned with the mission and future direction of the school.

Theological Knowledge and Biblical Mastery

  • Demonstrate a firm grasp of Scripture and reformed theology.
  • Teach biblical truths in ways that cultivate a growing, conversational intimacy with Jesus Christ.
  • Understand and teach the sacraments within the theological framework of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Westminster Confession of Faith and communicate its principles at developmentally appropriate levels.

Student and Community Relationships

  • Demonstrate a genuine love for working and connecting with young students.
  • Take initiative in building meaningful relationships with students, faculty, and families.
  • Maintain healthy relational boundaries that foster trust and respect while upholding appropriate authority.
  • Enforce school policies and expectations in a manner that preserves dignity and relationships.

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is Biblical studies, education or a related field.
  • Proven leadership ability within a church or Christian educational setting.
  • Experience teaching or discipling students.
  • Spiritual maturity and a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Organizational strength and attention to detail.
  • Strong follow-through and reliability.
  • Punctuality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Scripture and Reformed theology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administration, and families.
