Director of Security: The Covenant School
The Director of Security is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of campus safety and security for the school community. This position ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Director of Security will implement, monitor, and continually improve policies and procedures related to campus safety, personnel safety, and student protection. Essential Responsibilities
Campus Security
* Oversee the daily safety and security operations of the school campus.
* Maintain a visible presence on campus to deter safety concerns and respond quickly to incidents.
* Monitor and manage security systems, including cameras, access control, alarms, and visitor management systems.
* Conduct regular safety and security assessments of campus facilities.
* Develop and implement strategies to improve campus safety and emergency preparedness.
* Hire and oversee any additional security staff needs.
Policy Development and Implementation
* Review, implement, and update existing safety and security policies and procedures.
* Assist school leadership in developing new policies related to campus, personnel, and student safety.
* Ensure security protocols align with best practices for school safety.
* Maintain documentation and compliance with all State and local safety regulations and accreditation requirements.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
* Develop and maintain emergency response plans including lockdown, evacuation, severe weather, medical emergencies, and other crisis situations.
* Coordinate and lead safety drills for students and staff.
* Serve as the primary point of contact during safety incidents or emergencies.
* Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency services.Training and Education
* Provide regular safety training for faculty, staff, and volunteers.
* Assist in educating students on age-appropriate safety practices.
* Ensure staff understand and follow established safety procedures.
Community and Law Enforcement Coordination
* Maintain strong relationships with local law enforcement and emergency agencies.
* Coordinate safety planning and response protocols with local authorities.
* Assist school leadership in communicating with families regarding safety practices when appropriate.
Event and Visitor Security
* Oversee security planning for school events, programs, and large gatherings.
* Monitor visitor check-in procedures and campus access.
* Ensure that security protocols are consistently followed by all volunteers, visitors, and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications/Requirements
* Prior experience in law enforcement, school resource officer service, military security, or professional safety/security operations required.
* Demonstrated knowledge of or experience working in a school or educational environment school.
* Experience in developing or implementing security policies and procedures.
* Ability to assess risks and implement practical safety solutions.
* Strong communication and leadership skills.
* Ability to interact positively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
* Commitment to the mission and values of The Covenant School.
* Calm and decisive under pressure; highly observant and detail oriented.
* An understanding of how to educate and intervene in trauma-based manner.
* Experience managing security technology systems.
* Training in emergency management, crisis response, or threat assessment.
* CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
* Holds all needed State certifications for school resource officers carrying a firearm on a school campus.
* Ability to patrol campus on foot for extended periods.
