Middle School English Teacher: The Harpeth Hall School

The Harpeth Hall School seeks a dynamic, student-centered middle school English teacher. Candidates should possess a passion for the discipline of English and an enthusiasm for working with middle school students in an all-girls environment.  English teachers at Harpeth Hall possess strong background in reading, literature, grammar instruction, and writing instruction, remain current on best practices, and are versed in backwards-design.  High standards both in and out of the classroom are integral to the Harpeth Hall experience, and applicants for this role should be adept at classroom management and at maintaining high expectations for students and for themselves.

Qualified applicants will have a degree in English or a closely related field, as well as teaching experience at the middle school level.  A master’s degree and a minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience are preferred.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach three or four sections of middle school English with clarity, creativity, consistency, and joy
  • Collaborate frequently with a grade level English teaching partner to design and implement curricular units, lesson plans, and assessments
  • Engage actively with grade level colleagues to support students and families
  • Provide meaningful feedback that fosters a growth mindset among all students
  • Serve as advisor to a small group of middle school students
  • Participate in / facilitate extracurricular activities
