Research and Instructional Librarian: Baylor School
Baylor School is hiring for the full-time position of Research and Instructional Librarian in the Hedges Library to begin in the 26-27 school year, starting August 2026. The highly qualified candidate will have proven experience in libraries, a record of working with students in grades 6-12, and a bachelor’s degree in Humanities or Information Science, and an MLS, MLIS, or MSIS degree. Demonstrated experience with research instruction, facility with LibGuides, and an ability to connect with students are a must. The Research and Instructional Librarian will collaborate with students and faculty to support course-specific curriculum through research instruction and will work to create a warm, welcoming library environment.

Library Description
Hedges Library is a two-story, 16,000 square foot library that overlooks the Tennessee River. The library houses collection holdings of more than 28,000 fiction, nonfiction, and reference books, e-books, and numerous subscriptions to journals and research databases. The first floor of the library features the fiction collection and Young Adult graphic novels, nonfiction, and biographies. The first floor also features Felder Forbes, a lounge and meeting space for students and faculty, large windows that showcase the beauty of the Tennessee River, comfortable, soft seating spaces, and desktop computers for student and faculty use. The second floor of the library houses the reference and nonfiction collections, the Applied Humanities Lab, the podcasting and film studio, and a multipurpose classroom. The library collection and the services offered by the library staff support the work done in the classroom, enhance the concepts being taught, and expand the academic possibilities through the use of printed materials and digital resources.
Position Summary
The Research and Instructional Librarian will be responsible for developing students’ growth as thoughtful and effective researchers by providing instruction in resource evaluation, digital citizenship, and ethical research methods and assisting with collection development of reference and nonfiction materials. The Research and Instructional Librarian will also support Baylor faculty in creating meaningful research opportunities across curricula.
The Research and Instructional Librarian:
- Conducts instructional research sessions and citation workshops for 6-12 students across all academic departments
- Collaborates with faculty create effective research assignments
- Provides instruction in resource evaluation, digital citizenship, and ethical research methods
- Assists students one-one-one with research projects during Extra Help, Community Time, and free periods
- Develops online research guides and tutorials for student and faculty use
- Assists with collection development and management of nonfiction and reference materials
- Provides recommendations to library director for research databases, reference sources, and other digital platforms
- Stays current on developing technology tools for research and implementation in instruction
