The mission of Girls Preparatory School (GPS) is to inspire each girl to lead a life of integrity and purpose by engaging her mind, cultivating her strengths, and nurturing her self-confidence and respect for others. Currently, 130 faculty and staff serve approximately 500 girls in grades 6-12 with a college preparatory curriculum that includes a full complement of courses in the humanities, STEM, the arts, and more, as well as a rich and varied co-curricular program.

Position Summary
Girls Preparatory School seeks a Director of Athletic Training beginning the 2026-27 school year. The Director of Athletic Training is a full-time position within the Athletics Department, responsible for the strategic direction, daily operations, and long-term development of the athletic training and sports medicine at GPS. This role oversees all aspects of athletic healthcare for middle school and upper school student-athletes and aligns with the Director model used within GPS Athletics.
Key Responsibilities
Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the athletic training and sports medicine program serving all GPS student-athletes;
Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures related to athletic healthcare, injury prevention, and return-to-play protocols;
Manage the athletic training budget, facilities, equipment, and supply purchasing;
Develop and maintain emergency action plans for all athletic venues and events;
Oversee the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all sports and grade levels;
Ensure appropriate athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, postseason play, and travel as needed;
Maintain accurate and compliant medical records in accordance with school, state, and federal guidelines;
Collaborate closely with coaching staff, the school nurse, strength and conditioning staff, and external healthcare providers;
Coordinate and oversee school-wide programs related to athletic health and safety (e.g., student-athlete annual physicals, concussion education, drug testing if applicable); and
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Director of Athletics, Athletics Department, and school mission.
Qualifications
5-7 years experience as a certified athletic trainer at the high school and/or collegiate level;
Demonstrated leadership experience managing athletic training or sports medicine staff;
Experience collaborating with coaches, physicians, administrators, and families;
Bachelor’s degree from a CAATE-accredited athletic training program required;
Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field preferred;
Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer;
Eligible for or currently licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Tennessee;
CPR/AED and First Aid certification (American Heart Association or equivalent); and
Additional certifications (e.g., concussion management, emergency care instruction) preferred.
