4th Grade Reading and Social Studies Teacher: Evangelical Christian School
Evangelical Christian School is seeking a Christ-centered, enthusiastic 4th Grade Reading & Social Studies Teacher to join our Elementary faculty. This teacher will provide daily, high-quality literacy instruction to all 4th grade homerooms and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate social studies instruction several times per week.
The ideal candidate is passionate about cultivating strong readers, thoughtful thinkers, and curious learners while helping students build a foundational understanding of history, geography, and civic life. This teacher will intentionally integrate a Christian worldview into instruction, classroom culture, and relationships, investing in students’ academic growth, character development, and spiritual formation.
- Reading Instruction (Daily Core Class)
- Teach reading to each 4th grade homeroom daily using a structured literacy approach.
- Implement curriculum components that support vocabulary development (Wordly Wise or similar), reading comprehension strategies, and novel-based instruction through chapter books.
- Guide students in applying reading skills such as inference, summarizing, text analysis, and vocabulary acquisition across a variety of genres.
- Use formative and summative reading assessments to differentiate instruction and support individual student growth.
- Monitor and support student progress through the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, encouraging goal setting and increased reading challenge.
- Foster a classroom culture that promotes a love of reading, curiosity, and independent learning.
- Social Studies Instruction (2–3 Times Weekly)
- Teach social studies to assigned 4th grade homerooms two to three times per week.
- Deliver instruction aligned to vertically sequenced curriculum standards to ensure continuity and progression across grade levels.
- Help students build historical understanding, geographic awareness, and early civic literacy through inquiry-based learning and discussion.
- Integrate literacy skills and critical thinking within social studies content when appropriate.
- Encourage respectful discussion and thoughtful engagement with historical topics within a biblical worldview.
Classroom Culture & Student Formation
- Create a structured, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that supports academic and personal growth.
- Model Christian character, kindness, and responsibility in daily interactions.
- Build strong relationships with students, offering encouragement, guidance, and accountability.
- Pray for and with students, helping them connect learning with faith, truth, and wisdom.
- Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with grade-level teachers and specialists to ensure instructional alignment and consistency. Participate actively in team meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
- Communicate clearly and regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, assessment data, and grading in PowerSchool.
- Support and contribute to ECS’s mission, culture, and school-wide goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, or a related field
- Elementary teaching experience preferred
- Strong understanding of literacy instruction and experience teaching upper elementary learners
- Ability to deliver engaging social studies instruction aligned to grade-level standards
- A clear commitment to Christian education and alignment with ECS’s mission and Statement of Faith
- Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, and a heart for mentoring children
