Environmental remediation is the process of removal of pollution from different environmental mediums such as soil, water and air. Water which is present on the surface or in the underground requires to be purified so that it will be usable for everyday activities that are carried out by a human being. Remediation generally is subjected to different regulatory requirements and can change from time to time depending upon the assessments of ecological changes and human health. Hence, there are no particular standards are available that a particular entity or organization should follow in order to clean away a particular medium of environment.

As such, there is no standard that has to be followed for environmental remediation; every country has set its own standards depending upon the pollution levels and the ecological changes. Environmental protection agency provides the required standards that are to be followed by every company in United States of America. Though a particular set of standards already exist in Europe which are called as Dutch standards, the European Union is moving towards a wider standards so that it is common for every nation that is present in Europe. In Canada, the standards are provided according to the province and the Canadian Council of ministers of environment provides guidance at the federal level.

Once the site has been suspected of contamination, the same has to be evaluated for the presence of pollutant and their levels. Often, every site inspection begins with the phase 1 of environmental site assessment process. Depending on this particular report, the necessary strategy, type of sampling and the chemical analysis are then carried out in order to understand the level of pollution that is present in the area. Environmental remediation requires a good understanding of pollutants that are present in different mediums of environment.

There are many experts who carry out regular visits to different sites in order to assess the contamination level of pollutants. The only concern for not carrying out a regular assessment of a land is duty the costs that are involved and also due to the fact that no one would like to point out a weakness in their site. Hence, environmental remediation is very limited and is carried out only where the agency has the freedom to carry out the assessment and notify the same to the owner of the site. But, it is very important to take care of the mediums of environment in order to have a healthy lifestyle.
